Hibernian FC are delighted to confirm that talented young defender Josh Doig has agreed a new contract that will run until the summer of 2023.
The 18-year-old – who is equally comfortable at centre-back or left-back – has made a big impression on the staff at the Hibernian Training Centre since signing for the club in the summer.
Josh’s progress led to his inclusion in the first-team squad for our pre-season preparations and saw him secure a first-ever Scotland call-up when he was named in Billy Stark’s Under-18 squad.
This latest career landmark is testament to his hard work in training and performances for the Development Squad.
Having committed his future to the Hibees, Josh has also agreed a loan move to Queen’s Park for the remainder of the season – which will give him exposure to regular first-team football, while leaving him free to train at HTC and participate in our specially-arranged Development Squad games programme.
Josh said: “I didn’t have to think twice when I was offered the new contract.
“I’ve loved every minute of my time at Hibernian and I think I’ve improved in every area – athletically, mentally and technically.
“I’m excited to be going to Queen’s Park on loan and hopefully that will help me get closer to one day breaking into the first team here.”
Sporting Director Graeme Mathie added: “We are delighted to secure Josh on an extended contract.
“He has continued to develop well since joining us in the summer under the guidance of Eddie May within the Academy and Development Squad structure.
“The loan at Queen’s Park is an excellent opportunity for him to play competitive football at a young age and we are pleased to work with Ray McKinnon to assist Josh’s development in the short term, and equally delighted that Josh and his family have trusted us with his long-term development by signing an extension to his contract.”
