So keen was Graham Stack to make an impression at Hibernian that he overdid things in his first training session under the direction of John Hughes and Brian Rice - and missed out on a couple of pre-season matches as a result. The goalkeeper however did not take long to recover, claiming a first-team debut in the Co-operative Insurance Cup - and holding his place in the side ever since.

Graham felt right at home from day one, his own personality in the Hibernian squad proving to be a massive boost for the rest of the side, in particular a passion and desire not to give an inch no matter the opponents. The move to Edinburgh has also proven to be a good one for Graham's family, resulting in a happy player who is now well settled into his new surrounds. "Yes I'm pretty well settled in now with my family here with me so as far as things go off the pitch things have been going well," Graham told Hibernian TV this week, adding: "Obviously things are progressing quite well on the pitch as well.

"The team is third in the table and I'm playing week in week out so I'm just hoping we can keep that going and be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. I know that it is always a battle to keep your place in a squad like ours, and that's the way it should be - in football you have to know that your job is not safe, the gaffer has shown that no matter who you are or how well you think you've been playing, if you don't quite do the work in training or let your standards drop in a game then there is always a chance that you're not going to be in the side.

"The incentive is there for you to work throughout the week at a high tempo and get things right, you have to make the most of your opportunities. I'm keen to remain in the side until the end of the season and obviously that is in my hands right now." Just the one clean sheet so far is a statistic that Graham is obviously hoping to improve on, that he believes will come as the team settled into the season. There are positive signs of that in recent games, the win at Fir Park and draw against Dundee United set Hibernian up well to go into the international break tucked in just behind the Old Firm.

"Consistency is the sign of any good side - you are striving for that and in particular beating the teams that are in and around you in the league. In fairness we have won games this season where we have not played well, but in our last game against Dundee United I thought we were terrific, but still we did not go on to win the game. You always want three points at the end of the game and last time we had everything right but the points. That's disappointing but there were definitely a lot of great things to come out of the game, in particular the number of good chances we created as before the last two matches we had not been creating so many chances.

"We are now hoping to get on a little run, we're unbeaten in two so we need to go out there and beat teams like Kilmarnock this week. We are I think expected to do that, we are at home and we as a team expect to beat Kilmarnock so we put the pressure on ourselves. But we also know it won't be easy, it never is by any means - this will be another hard game against a competitive side who will come to our place and try and win the game."
