There are few more relaxed places in the Scottish game right now than the Hibernian Training Centre, which has perhaps become one of the happiest workplaces in Scotland this year! Colin Nish confirmed last week that so delighted are the inhabitants with each others company nobody is in any particular hurry to head for home after training - and the results of this camaraderie were on display once again at Easter Road on Saturday.
It was without doubt a team performance that left Motherwell with a trip back to Lanarkshire having suffered away defeat for the first time this season. The hardest job of the afternoon - apart perhaps from keeping goal for Motherwell - will have been left to those making the 'man of the match' decision. There could not have been a player in the home dressing room that did not have some claim to that accolade.
Certainly one that was high in the minds of many was Nish himself. A striker by trade, but taking on board the work-ethic that exists within the Hibernian squad he is currently a man of all positions, helping out in defence one moment and in a blink of an eye holding the ball up in attack. Colin was back at work yesterday happily posing for photographs and signing autographs at the annual Hibs Kids Pantomime - and the kids seemed to be finding it easier to get close to Nish than Motherwell had 24 hours earlier.
Reflecting on another great days work Colin said: "I think that in the second half in particular we played really well on Saturday. We always fancied our chances even before the game - in particular we felt if we scored the first goal. After doing that late in the first half we went out in the second feeling we could finish the job and I felt we did that very well. We got a wee bit of luck for the second goal but they all count, and we were always looking likely to score again."
The second goal flashed past the 'well goalkeeper after taking a wicked deflection, and it appeared from the viewing position in the west stand at least that it might have taken a touch off Nish. He did have to admit however that he was not even close: "I did try to claim the goal but Stoksey was having none of that! To be honest I never touched the ball and I was just celebrating the fact that we had got the second, in fact I don't think the ball was even close to me - end of the day we are all just delighted to have clinched another three points."
The season has been a tough one for Colin, who found himself out of the side at the start of the campaign - but never out of the mind of manager John Hughes: "I was out of the team for a wee while and we were still winning so it was harder to get back in, but the manager gave me a chance so I'm just delighted to have been in the side on Saturday. I heard the manager's comments last week and that was good, but all you want to ever do is your best and hope that is enough.
"People will keep on talking about our undefeated run now but it has honestly not been something we think too much about. That said we are aware of where we are and we want to keep ourselves in a challenging position in the league, to do that we have to keep winning football games but most of all we need to keep enjoying it as we are now. We have Kilmarnock and Aberdeen now away from home - every game is tough but we have the confidence right now and we know we are capable of going to these places and winning six points, and that will certainly be the only thing on our minds."
