If Hibernian is to take anything from the game at Celtic Park this evening then they will have to stop Aiden McGeady - although he is not exactly the only danger man in the Parkhead squad. Not that this has been over-occupying the minds of the Hibernian squad as they have been preparing for the second meeting with the Glasgow side this season - Kevin McBride pointing out that the side is very much looking forward to the game.
Having started his career at Celtic, Kevin McBride is well placed to know the culture that exists there - and while enjoying playing against both halves of the Old Firm, he certainly never feels intimidated by the experience: "It's special playing at any Old Firm ground but having been at Celtic as a youngster it is a bit more special for me to go back there. I've been back a few times of course but for Liam Miller it's the first time apart from a testimonial he played there, I don't think it will be of much concern to him though. He has been in great form for us all season and I expect he will continue that into this game.
"I'm not sure that anyone has any fear about playing either side in Glasgow these days, they remain the major sides in Scotland of course but like others we are working to get up there with them and I certainly don't feel we fear them. Obviously though we know it is always going to be a tough game, I watched them at the weekend against St Johnstone and in the second half they were fantastic - but we had a good game ourselves and we certainly don't go there with any fear.
"I've been there of course with this manager as well when at Falkirk - we'll just go there and play our normal game, when you go and defend against Celtic or Rangers then nine times out of ten you will lose the game. Anyway with the players we have and the attacking set up then it's not as if we can go there and try to sit in and defend - we have players that have shown they can score against anybody in this league."
McBride feels then that Hibernian will be concentrating on their own strengths as they approach the game this evening, although they have to remain aware of the danger men in the opposition ranks: "Aiden McGeady is always going to be a big danger - I was a bit older than Aiden and so did not play much alongside him, although I did play with him in the reserve side. He is I feel the main man you have to stop when you are playing Celtic, and that will be difficult to be honest in particular at Parkhead. He is a fantastic player but he is also coming up against two good full-backs. You always felt when Aiden was younger that he was destined for a big career, when you saw him in training and games then you realised what all the hype was about - and he has continued on from there."
John Hughes has laid down the challenge to his players through to the end of the season, and if they are to meet his demands then they have to be looking to pick up points whenever and wherever they play: "I don't disagree with the manager there, I think from the start we should be looking at least at third place - with the talk though of us splitting the old firm you might take your eyes off things, and in recent weeks perhaps that is what we did. But we got back to winning on Saturday, now we have to try and continue that including getting something from the game against Celtic."
