Lewis Stevenson admits he was pleased to be back in action following Hibernian's 4-0 friendly win at Dunfermline on Saturday and says he is looking forward to building on that result at Queen of the South on Tuesday evening (13 July, kick off 7.45pm).

The Kirkcaldy-born midfielder played his part in ensuring Hibernian got the pre-season schedule off to a winning start and says he enjoyed chalking up a victory in his native Fife.

Stevenson said: "It was good to get back out onto the pitch and get playing again because we are all feeling fit and sharp. In the end it was a good run out for the boys and we did better than perhaps we thought we would've.

"We made a slow start but I think that was because Dunfermline are ahead of us in terms of fitness after returning to training a week earlier than us.It took us a wee bit of time to find our feet but once we got into the pace of the game the boys showed their class.

"There was a little bit extra incentive to play well for me because there is a bit of rivalry between Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline, so it was nice to get one over on them.

"Queen of the South will be another hard game for us.Just like Dunfermline, they've come back a wee bit earlier than us and will be fit.

"They will be looking to take the scalp of an SPL team but we will go down there and use it as a good exercise to get our fitness up and hopefully play some good stuff.

"I was happy to get just over half-an-hour today but if I get the chance to start on Tuesday it is up to me to take it and to do my best to impress the manager."
