John Hughes believes
Hibernian have been handed a tricky
Co-operative Insurance Cup third round tie at
Kilmarnock (Tuesday 21 September
or Wednesday 22 September, date tbc) but says his new-look squad will rise to the occasion.
The last time Hibernian faced Kilmarnock in the competition was in 2007 when the men in green and white lifted the trophy at Hampden.
Manager Hughes acknowledges that it is a tough opening match in the tournament this time around.
But the boss says that he believes his summer intake of players have the right mindset to help Hibernian progress through to the next round.
Speaking to Hibernian TV (click here to subscribe), Hughes said: "It is a hard draw; any draw away from home is always difficult.
"But if you want to win the Cup then you have to go to every stadium and win.
"I expect it will be a very difficult football match, but it is one that I'm very much looking forward to.
"We are more than capable of going to Kilmarnock and putting together a winning performance.
"What I've tried to do this week is to bring in players with a winning mentality.
"Guys who want to show the right character and mindset in order to do everything they can to make sure we end up on the winning side.
"We want to create a winning culture at this football club. An environment where there are no excuses and the team goes out there and takes care of business.
"By the time this Cup tie comes around, hopefully we will made major progress on that front.
"But the catalyst behind that becoming a reality is sheer hard work. Our team has to go an earn results by imposing our gameplan and seizing control.
"Fortunately I don't think our squad is afraid of hard work, so the onus is on them to deliver and give our supporters something to cheer about."
