The new East Stand has literally grown out of the old over the past six months with many materials from the old landscape and structure being recycled during the construction process. Many parts of the famous old terracing form fundamental parts of the new Stand, and some traditions of the old East have been able to be retained.
Concrete from the old terraces and steps were crushed and recycled to form the base layer for the new structure, and the metalwork from the old exit gates was removed and stored for re-use.
The old metalwork has now been refurbished, finished and installed above each of the 14 exit gates coming out of the new East Stand, to allow supporters to 'keep in touch' with the past, and continue to slap the old gate as they leave the Stadium.
