Hibernian FC today announces that Colin Calderwood has been appointed Club Manager with immediate effect on a three year contract.
45 year-old Calderwood leaves Newcastle United where, as Assistant Manager to Chris Hughton, he oversaw a successful season in 2009-10 which resulted in automatic promotion from the Football League Championship and a solid start to this season's campaign in the FA Premier League.
As a player, Calderwood made over 600 appearances in English club football, counting Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa amongst his teams.
He also featured 36 times for the Scottish national team playing in the World Cup Finals and the European Championship Finals.
Following his retirement as a player in 2001, Calderwood became Reserve Team Manager at Tottenham Hotspur before being appointed Manager at Northampton Town in 2003.
Success followed, culminating in promotion to Football League One in 2006.Nottingham Forest then secured his services as Manager and once again his team achieved promotion, this time to the Football League Championship in 2008.
Calderwood said: "I have enjoyed my time at Newcastle United immensely; it is a great club with a great support.
"However, I have always wanted to be a Manager again in my own right and I am therefore delighted to be given this opportunity at another huge club, Hibernian.
"This is a well run, stable club with a wonderful tradition and terrific facilities. I'm looking forward to working with the squad and can't wait to get started as we prepare for Saturday's game at Aberdeen."
Hibernian Chairman Rod Petrie said: "Colin has been in the dug out as a Manager in nearly 300 matches.
"He also has a wealth of experience as a player and as an Assistant Manager in the English Premier League.
"He is a winner, having won promotion with three different clubs. He is a leader with real drive and determination to succeed. This makes him an outstanding choice."
