James McDonaugh hailed the adaptability shown by Hibernian under-20s after watching the young team in green record their first victory in pre-season - a 3-0 win over Crew United in the Foyle Cup.

After being held to a 1-1 draw against Dergview in the opening match of the tournament, Hibernian moved up a gear and goals from David Gold, Bradley Donaldson and Jay Doyle clinched the triumph.

Now the under-20s will face Arklow Town in their next match - a must-win fixture if the team in green harbour any hopes of qualifying for the latter stages.

McDonaugh said: "We've now got ourselves into a positive position to qualify. The games in the Foyle Cup are different to what we come up against at home - they are more physical with less football played. I thought tonight we adapted well, defended superbly and scored some great goals."

Team: Horne, Black, Forster, Donaldson, Baptie, Harris, Trialist, Gold, Horribine, Paul, Trialist.

Subs: Grant, Wilson, Monaghan, Smith, Doyle, Beaton

David Paul scored the team's goal against Dergview on Monday evening.
