James McDonaugh says that Hibernian under-20s' 1-1 friendly draw at Selkirk on Tuesday night underlined the need for the youth squad to keep striving for perfection ahead of the new season.

Heading into the match, Hibernian under-20s had chalked up an impressive five victories in a row, with a Foyle Cup triumph achieved during that time, and headed into the practice match in an upbeat mood.

But, despite dominating for large periods and carving out a series of decent chances, Hibernian's youth were held to a 1-1 draw at Yarrow Park with Danny Handling scoring the young team in bottle green's goal.

McDonaugh says he learned a great deal from the fixture and it provided the team with plenty to work on before the SPL under-20 season starts at Ross County next Tuesday (full details to appear on www.hibernianfc.co.uk in due course).

McDonaugh said: "Selkirk gave lots of effort and proved to be a very difficult team to break down. We were never able to fully get into a rhythm, although we managed to create four really good opportunities.

"But unfortunately we only managed to take one of them. It simply wasn't good enough or tidy enough and now we have to work harder than before in order to improve."

Hibernian U20s: Horne, Black, Wilson, Forster, Smith, Horribine, Monaghan, S.Smith, Handling, Stanton, Trialist.

Subs: Beaton, Gold, Doyle, Grant, Harris, Trialist, Donaldson.

Highlights of the match are available to watch only on Hibernian TV, now available at a special rate of £4.99 for 2 months of the full package - interviews, highlights and commentaries.
