Hibernian have been handed an away tie in the second round of the Scottish Communities League Cup with a trip down to Queen of the South now scheduled to take place on either Tuesday 28 or Wednesday 29 August (full ticket details to follow in due course).

We've met the Dumfries club 14 times before in the League Competition and won on 12 occasions - the last time being in October 2003 when Derek Riordan scored twice in a victory at Palmerston Park.

The last time Hibernian played at Palmerston Park was in a pre-season friendly fixture before the start of the 2010/2011 season when Lewis Stevenson scored a rare goal!

Last season Hibernian reached the quarter final stage of the competition and it would be perfect with the 40th anniversary of our 1972 League Cup win set to take place in December if we could enjoy a good Cup run this time around. Coincidentally Hibernian defeated Queen of the South away back in August 1972 with John Blackley, Alan Gordon and Arthur Duncan scoring the goals.
