Alan Maybury says he is pleased to become a Hibernian player and admits he cannot wait to make his debut on Sunday, if selected (12 August, kick off 12.30pm) - against his old club, Hearts.
The 34-year-old defender - capped 10 times by the Republic of Ireland - has agreed a one year contract and subject to his registration being confirmed he will be available to wear the green in an Edinburgh Derby.
Experienced Maybury, formerly with Leeds United, Leicester City, Colchester United and St Johnstone, has been on trial at the club since July and says he is delighted to have signed.
Maybury said: "I'm pleased to sign for Hibs - the past five weeks have been really enjoyable and now I want to help the team to kick on and experience some success.
"It is part of the twists and turns of football that my Hibs debut could potentially be against Hearts, where I experienced three-and-a-half great years.
"But that's a challenge that really excites me and, if I'm given an opportunity, I will look to use my experience to help Hibs record a victory."
On Wednesday Maybury spent his 34th birthday training in front of the Hibernian supporters at Easter Road and says he wants to build a strong relationship with the club's fans.
He added: "The response I've received from the Hibs supporters has been great and it was good to meet some of them and sign autographs on Wednesday.
"Hopefully the supporters will have liked what they've seen of me during pre-season and I promise I will give them honest, committed performances every time I've given the opportunity to represent the club.
"My past is history and right now I'm a Hibs player and I'm excited about the challenge."
Manager Pat Fenlon welcomed his seventh arrival of the summer transfer window and believes Maybury will be a valuable asset in the squad.
Fenlon said: "Alan is a player who will add experience and versatility to the squad and I'm pleased to be able to sign him.
"He is another strong character and a good pro with the right attitude. He will help the development of our young players while also making a positive contribution on the pitch."
