Hibernian can confirm that striker Dominique Malonga has agreed to join the club with immediate effect on a two year contract.
Watch Dominique’s introductory chat exclusively available on the club’s online media channel Hibs TV later on this evening.
Born in Paris and capped by France at under-19 level, Malonga, 25, has subsequently elected to represent Congo at senior level, but played the majority of his career in Italy.
The forward won promotion into Serie A with Cesena and has also experienced loan spells with Foggia, Vicenza and Spain’s Real Murcia.
Now Malonga, who was a free agent and available to sign after the closure of the transfer window, says he is excited about starting the next chapter of his career in Scotland with Hibernian.
Speaking to hibernianfc.co.uk, Malonga said: “I’m very happy to be here and to be given the opportunity to sign for Hibs – it’s a great club and Edinburgh is a magnificent city.
“I’ve already played in France, Italy and Spain, so Scotland will be a new challenge for me and it’s one that I’m looking forward to.
“My aim is to score goals for Hibs, to help the team to win regularly and to hopefully bring joy to the supporters.
“I’ve won promotion before in Italy, so I know what is necessary to make that happen.
“The manager has impressed me, the squad have impressed and the club has impressed me – I’m excited about what can be achieved in the future.”
Head Coach Alan Stubbs believes the arrival of Malonga will prove to be a hugely important signing for Hibernian.
Stubbs said: “We’re delighted to be able to add Dominique to the squad – he’s a player that we’ve been looking at for a few weeks.
“The injury to Farid (El Alagui) has since quickened the process up even more.
“He is technically very gifted, quick and he looks to get beyond defenders.
“Dominique will be an important acquisition for the squad, who will hopefully score goals.
“Overall, we’re thrilled to be able to get the deal over the line.”
