The Hibernian Development Squad defeated Motherwell 3-1 at Oriam on Tuesday afternoon, thanks to a brace from Ruari Paton and a late Ben Stirling goal.
Motherwell had been largely on top in the opening period of the match before they were caught out as Paton scored the first goal of the afternoon.
Kane O’Conner, who was in the squad for Sunday’s Irn-Bru Cup tie against Turriff United, swung a cross into the box, that PJ Morrison spilled back into the danger area, with Paton on hand to knock the ball into the back of the net.
The visitors regained their composure and hauled themselves level on the half hour mark as Dylan Mackin rose highest at a corner to head the ball into the back of the net.
After the break, it was Hibernian’s turn to be the dominant team throughout the game and within a minute, Grant Murray’s side found themselves ahead once more.
Hibernian forayed down the right-hand side of the pitch, with the ball being picked up by Adam Watson. The midfielder got to the by-line, before picking out Paton for his second goal of the match with 46 minutes played.
The Development Squad were on top throughout the rest of the second half, dominating the bulk of play, but they had to wait for to finally secure the victory.
Ben Stirling, who is on a development loan at Berwick Rangers, found the back of the net in the closing stages of the match with a fine drive from distance, ensuring that the side maintained their unbeaten start to the season.
