Lewis Allan was delighted to claim a hat-trick in Monday afternoon’s 8-2 victory over Partick Thistle Reserves at Lesser Hampden in the SPFL Reserve Cup.
The forward scored twice in the first half before making it a trio of goals with a fortuitous effort in the second period.
He lavished praise on his team-mates for their performance in the shadow of the National Stadium, labelling it a “great response” from their derby defeat the previous week.
Lewis said: “It was great scoring a hat-trick. My first goal was our third one and it was a really good move. I’d say it was probably the best goal of the day.
“We won the ball back in our corner and Andy Blake has passed it to Callum Donaldson. Innes Murray has played it to me and I’ve played it into Callum and got it back. It was a really nice move from us.
“It was a very convincing performance from us. When they had a man sent off it made it a wee bit easier for us, but they were still dogged and kept on and tried making it as hard for us as they could.
“Overall, it was a really good performance and a great response from the disappointing result and performance last week.”
The Academy graduate was named in the starting line-up for the game away to Livingston, something he was personally delighted with, although the defeat tainted the experience somewhat for him.
He is now looking ahead to the rest of the season and is targeting more minutes and goals with the Development Squad and is hoping to add to his appearances at first team level.
The striker commented: “My main ambition is to keep going on at both levels. In the Reserve League set-up I’m just aiming to get as many minutes under my belt, keep playing as well as I can, and score as many goals as possible.
“I need to do that to keep in the manager’s eye this season. I know there will be injuries, there will be suspensions and other things could happen to first team players, so you’ll get a chance. If you do, you want to take it.
“I’m wanting to add to my one appearance this season, I want to try and get more minutes at first team level. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season – it’s an exciting time.”
