Grant Scott is looking forward to the SWPL Cup on Friday evening believing that it will be a “great occasion” at Airdrie’s Pennycars Stadium.
Hibernian’s Head Coach feels that the competitiveness between his players and Scott Booth’s Glasgow City will make it an exciting spectacle for those watching the match and labelled the game “a proper final.”
Speaking to Scottish Women’s Football, he said: “It is a game that I am really looking forward to. We’ve got a good record in cup finals recently. This is another great occasion for us.
“The final is between the two best teams over recent seasons, there are certainly some challengers in about it this season, but with it being against two familiar opponents it makes it a great occasion, especially for the spectators who will see a closely contested match.
“It will be a proper final on Friday.”
Hibernian completed a ‘treble double’ in November 2018 after winning the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup at Firhill, with the side continuing their fantastic streak in cup competitions – which began with a dramatic 2-1 win over Glasgow City in the SWPL Cup Final in June 2016.
Since that win over the west coast side Hibernian have dominated in domestic cup competitions, with Grant believing that the players involved deserve the praise and acknowledgement for their fantastic achievement.
Reaching a final is a reward for the team’s dedication and hard work, Grant says, for the hard work they do all year round, with many combining studies and working with playing at a high level, and putting in a power of work to remain at the upper echelons of the women’s game in Scotland.
The team are now looking to bring the SWPL Cup back to Scotland’s capital for a fourth successive year – something the Head Coach says would be a fantastic achievement in its own right.
He commented: “I have said previously that the achievement of winning the past six cup competitions shouldn’t be undervalued and externally people should acknowledge the squad of players that have achieved that.
“Whatever happens on Friday, we have a nice landmark of having won six domestic cup trophies in a row, but to win a fourth SWPL Cup in a row would be fantastic and another incredible achievement.
“At the end of the day, a lot of work goes into what we do and these cup finals are rewards for the players for all the work they do during the year.
“It’s a special day, a special occasion, and you hopefully get a trophy and can celebrate afterwards.”
The match between Hibernian and Glasgow City takes place at the Pennycars Stadium, Airdrie, on Friday 10 May with a 7:35pm kick-off. Click here for ticketing information for the SWPL Cup Final.
