The Hibernian Development Squad came from behind to defeat Huddersfield Town Under-20s at the Hibernian Training Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
It was the final match of the 2019/20 campaign for the side and they turned on the style against Huddersfield’s youngsters to ensure it ended on a high note.
After a fine 3-0 win over Middlesbrough Under-23s the week prior, the team were hoping for another dominant win, however, the visiting side had other ideas and laid siege to Paddy Martin’s goal in the first 15 minutes.
The goalkeeper made a double save early on to deny Scott High and then Kit Elliot’s follow-up effort in the third minute.
However, he was powerless to stop Dom Tear’s strike from the edge of the box as it found the bottom corner with seven minutes on the clock.
Hibernian rallied and went close through both Lewis Allan and Oli Shaw, before the latter and Innes Murray tested the Jacob Chapman in the Huddersfield goal with efforts in the 20th minute.
Josh Campbell got on the end of a whipped cross from Sean Mackie only to see his volleyed effort fly over the bar with Murray testing Chapman again with a free-kick before the half was out.
The second 45 minutes saw both sides grapple for supremacy with most of the play in the attacking half for Hibernian.
Chapman kept the lead intact for the visitors with a superb double save 10 minutes into the half as he got a hand to Shaw’s strike and then somehow managed to save Ben Stirling’s fierce effort on the volley.
Tear and Jacob Brown combined to give forward Micah Obiero an opportunity to extend the lead of the Yorkshire side, but he sent his effort high and wide.
The Terriers then put together a sweeping move that saw Demeaco Duhaney inches away from converting Elliott’s ball at the back post.
Eventually, after much perseverance from Hibernian, the side levelled with ten minutes remaining through the impressive Campbell.
The 19-year-old brought the ball down on the right and cut inside onto his left foot and hammered home an effort high into Chapman’s net to bring his side level.
In the final minute of the game, Murray swept home the winner with a smart finish from 25 yards out as it beat Chapman low to his left, completing a late turnaround.
