Hibernian FC today (23/7/2010) announced the formation and launch of the Hibernian Hall of Fame.
Hibernian Football Club was founded by the community, for the community. More than a football club, Hibernian has been a hallowed Scottish sporting institution and the centre of the Leith and Edinburgh community since 1875.
Hibernian is recognised as a Club of innovation, with a rich tradition of the pioneering spirit. This has been reflected on the pitch with many magical highs, and the occasional low, which all go hand in hand in making up what it means to be 'Hibernian'.
From the origins of the Club, to early Scottish Cup and League wins, through to the glory years of the Famous Five, the success of Turnbull's Tornadoes and the more recent Cup victories, Hibernian has continually challenged and entertained at the top end of Scottish football, with a renowned and exciting style of play.
As the Club approaches its 135th birthday, and the completion of the 'Family Home', Easter Road Stadium, it is an apt time to announce the launch and formation of the Hibernian FC Hall of Fame.
The Hibernian Hall of Fame has been established in partnership by four key organisations that have the football club as the reason for their existence. The Hibernian Historical Trust, the Hibernian FC Former Players Association, The Hibernian Supporters Association and naturally, the football club itself.
A Management Committee was established with representatives of all four organisations in the Autumn of 2009, with the objective of officially recognising, celebrating and commemorating the players, Managers and other worthy individuals who have made Hibernian FC what it is today.
After much (expected) debate, an inaugural list of nominees for the Hall of Fame was agreed, and they will be inducted into the Hibernian Hall of Fame at a Gala Dinner event on 15th October 2010.
Following the event, the inductees will be commemorated via a permanent Hall of Fame exhibition at Easter Road stadium - appropriately, within the Players Lounge.
Hosted by Radio Forth's Grant Stott, the Hibernian FC Hall of Fame Inaugural Gala Dinner will be held in the delightful surroundings of The Edinburgh Corn Exchange. The evening's celebrations will include a fascinating review of the History of Hibernian, using unique footage and imagery never seen before, live interviews and inductions of Hibernian legends, and the opportunity to meet and discuss the 'old days' with many former players of the Club.
It promises to be one of THE nights of Season 2010/11.
The inaugural list of nominees will be announced on the Club's 135th birthday on 6th August 2010, but tickets for the gala dinner and more information about the event and Hall of Fame are available now by calling 0131 656 7073/4.
