Right-back David Gray was Alan Stubbs' first signing in July 2015 and agreed a two-year contract.
In his debut season his experience with Manchester United, Preston North End, Stevenage and Burton Albion helped Hibernian to a second-placed finish. The full-back also contributed offensively, scoring three goals, including a header at Ibrox and a strike from the edge of the box in Hibernian's 4-0 win over Rangers in December 2015.
Appointed Club captain in the summer of 2015, the right-back also agreed to a contract extension until 2017, and it was in the 2015/16 season that he made his revered contribution to the Club. After a season of being a stand-out performer, he enshrined his name in Hibernian history with an excellent and hearty performance in the William Hill Scottish Cup Final in which his drive and determination to bring the trophy back to Leith was evident. Fittingly, his header in the second minute of injury-time won the match against Rangers 3-2, ending the 114-year wait to bring the trophy back to Leith.
He retained the captaincy after Neil Lennon took over the managerial reigns, and scored the only goal in Hibernian's 1-0 win away to Brondby in the UEFA Europa League. The right-back's consistent performances continued throughout the 2016/17 season, with his goal rounding off a 3-0 win against Queen of the South, which saw Hibernian promoted back to the top tier.
A two-year contract extension with the captain was agreed in the summer of 2017, keeping David at the Club until 2019.
