Gibson Delighted With His Side’s Performance Against Boroughmuir

Dean Gibson was full of praise on Thursday evening after his side picked up an 8-0 victory against Boroughmuir Thistle in pre-season.

Hibs Women’s second pre-season fixture of the 2022/23 season saw the side host Boroughmuir Thistle at the Hibernian Training Centre.

Gibson’s side dominated most of the match and eventually ran out as 8-0 winners on the night.

Speaking after the match, Gibson stated: “I thought we were good, we took care of the ball and moved it.

“The game probably went how we thought it was going to go. We expected to have a lot of possession and dominate but there is no point in having possession if you don’t hurt the opposition.

“So, I think we mixed it up well with having safe possession but then also hurtful in the final third.

“I’m really pleased with the girls, I think there were spells maybe in the first half in between 10-20 minutes where we were maybe becoming a bit forceful, getting a little bit frustrated, but I think once we settled again, we were very good for about 80 minutes.”

Gibson also mentioned the importance of pre-season, stating that players are becoming “sharper” and that the new signings are getting to know the team.

“It’s huge (getting the new players into the squad). I think it has been a bit stop-start with the signings because of the visas and the work permits but Benni and Nor were here today which was great, so they have played their first games for the club now.

“Benni kept a clean sheet along with Ailey in the first half and Nor scored a couple of goals – although she is arguing she should have had a hat-trick, which I think she might have a good argument there.

“The main thing is not about the result or how many goals we score, it’s about getting to know the team and the way we want to play the game.

“So today's game has served its purpose and another good performance.”
