We have teamed up with the world’s largest surplus food app, Too Good To Go, to prevent surplus food from our matchdays from going to waste.
Leading the food waste movement, Too Good To Go lets people buy surplus food and drink from hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, pubs and producers to stop it from going to waste. Consumers simply download the free Too Good To Go app and search for nearby businesses with unsold produce. They then purchase a ‘Magic Bag’, collect it at an allotted time and enjoy it.
We are the first football club to partner with Too Good To Go in the UK. Magic Bags will contain a variety of delicious surplus fare from our food kiosks, and will be available for collection from us on matchdays. The ‘Match Day Goodies’ Magic Bags will cost £4 each, but contain a selection of food items worth up to £12.
This partnership with Too Good To Go is just one part of our continued commitment to sustainability which led to it being named in the UK’s Top 10 Green Football Clubs (PDE Waste Technologies, 2019).
Alongside our partnership to save food with Too Good To Go, our other sustainable initiatives include: using 100% renewable energy sources; a fully dedicated vegan kiosk in the North Stand; an established partnership with Environmental Waste Controls to reduce the amount of non-recycled waste on site; and we are currently in the process of electrifying its fleet of cars and vans, adding EV charging points in our surrounding areas.
Our Commercial Director, Greg McEwan, commented: “As a club we are always looking at ways to become more sustainable and to reduce waste. Through our work with Too Good To Go, we will continue to lead the way in Scotland on this front, whilst also providing food that our supporters or people in the community will enjoy. We hope people enjoy their Magic Bags and we can see this making a big impact on reducing our food waste at Easter Road.”
“We’re delighted to have welcomed Hibernian FC into our growing community of over 15,000 partner stores,” adds Paschalis Loucaides, UK Managing Director of Too Good To Go.
“This collaboration will mean that the abundance of delicious food available at their club will be enjoyed and eaten rather than wasted, and I know our app users in the area are going to love their Magic Bags. It’s great to see Hibernian FC leading the way when it comes to sporting grounds being more sustainable and I’m really looking forward to seeing the impact we can make together.”
