Match Preview: Hibernian Women vs Glasgow City

THE LOWDOWN

This Sunday, Hibernian Women host Glasgow City at Penicuik Park for the final Parks Motor Group SWPL 1 match of the season for both teams.

Following a 4-0 victory over Hamilton Academical on Wednesday evening, Dean Gibson’s side will be looking to continue winning ways and end the season on a high on Sunday.

THE OPPOSITION

Glasgow City have secured 2nd place in the Park’s Motor Group SWPL 1 table after narrowly missing out on the league title to Rangers Women.

In their last match, Glasgow City picked up a 4-1 victory over Aberdeen Women.

Hibs and Glasgow City have met each other twice this season, with Glasgow City picking up the victory on both occasions. The first meeting ended a 3-0 win for Glasgow City on November 7th 2021 and the second came on February 27th 2022 where Glasgow City secured a narrow 2-1 victory at Petershill Park.

Leah Eddie is hoping her side can pick up their third victory in a row this weekend.

FROM THE CHANGING ROOM

Leah Eddie has shared her thoughts ahead of our final game of the season and explained how big our rivalry with Glasgow City is.

“We are feeling good, we have won our last two games comfortably, which is giving us confidence going into Sunday. It’s of course the last game of the season and no team has anything to lose, for us, we have secured 4th place and we will be looking to get a positive result on Sunday to finish off the season.

“City are a well-organised and strong side that have done well through the full season. We expect them to come out and go for it as they are the same as us, they also have nothing to lose. We will prepare to try and exploit where we feel we can get success.

“Hibs v Glasgow City is always an exciting game. There is so much history between both teams and when we come up against each other it’s always a competitive game of football, both teams always looking to come out on top. It will be very much the same on Sunday, both looking to finish as well as we can.

“To end the season three wins out of three is what we are looking for and it would be a good feeling going into the break. It’s important we implement what we have been doing in previous games to give ourselves the best chance. If we were to get the result we are pushing for, it will only give us confidence and something to build on for next season. It’s going to be an exciting time for the club next season, and we need to ensure we give ourselves the best end/start as we can."

Shannon McGregor has also shared her thoughts ahead of this weekend's clash with Glasgow City.

Shannon McGregor was pleased with the side’s win over Hamilton on Wednesday and is now looking to finish the season with a win over Glasgow City.

“Very happy with our victory against Hamilton in our midweek game as we proved that we can be clinical in the final third and it was very important to us that we continued our run of victories that we aimed for until the end of the season.

“The team and I are prepared for Sunday’s match against Glasgow City, we know what to expect. Like I said, we are looking to end the season high on a run of victories.

“The rivalry is very important between us, and it has been for a number of years. They are a tough side and we respect them, however, it’s a challenge that we are willing to relish.”
