Lewis Miller is focused on developing at Hibernian FC after making the summer switch from Australia.
The 21-year-old put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal after excelling in the A-League with Central Coast Mariners last season.
The attack-minded full-back has spent the majority of the summer away with his nation’s Under-23s side, but finally got to meet his teammates this week in the Algarve for the week-long training camp.
In his first interview with Hibs TV, he said: “It’s been awesome. It’s been really sunny, bright and I’ve already gelled with the lads; they’re such a good group.
“I’m rooming with three boys which makes it easier. Everyone individually is so respectful and know what they want from me. They know how to push me to reach my limits and like I said I’m very excited to be at such a high-profile club.”
It’s been a tough week for all the lads as they’ve been put through their paces by Lee Johnson in the blistering Portuguese heat, something Miller thinks will prove extremely beneficial.
“We’ve been training three times a day and it’s tough on the body, but we’re all footballers and that’s what we get paid for, right. We’re all athletes and capable of doing three or more if we have to. We’ve been preparing during pre-season and ready for our first game tomorrow.
“Everyone is fighting for a spot here and that’s what makes teams successful and that’s what makes teams great teams. We’re all fighting for the same goal to win games, but we all want that starting shirt.”
With his contract up at the end of last season, the talented youngster had a number of options. He accepted a deal at MacArthur FC before Hibs came calling. He explained why he changed his decision.
“I signed a pre-contract elsewhere, but my goal was to come overseas. Scotland has a great league; it’s a very physical and aggressive. I’ve seen a lot of highlights and I loved the style of football. When a high-profile club like Hibs came along, I couldn’t say no.”
So what should Hibees expect from Miller?
“I’m a physical, aggressive full-back that likes to bomb on and get forward,” he said. “I can do my defensive job when required, but at the end of the day I want to win with this team and I’ll do whatever I can to do it.”
