Hibs take top spot

Hibernian took top spot in SWPL 1 after a 4-0 victory away to Motherwell.

Goals from Rachael Boyle, Kirsty Morrison, Carla Boyce and Amy Muir rounded off another solid, clinical performance from Dean Gibson's side.

After victory over Spartans in matchday one, the Edinburgh side were full of confidence heading to Alliance Park but prepared for a tough test from Paul Brownlie's squad.

Gibson made a number of changes from that opening day win with Emily Mutch, Muir and Boyce all coming in for their first starts of the campaign.

Despite the changes, the visitors made a strong start and dominated proceedings with Shannon Leishman and Morrison linking up particularly well, causing Motherwell's defence problems.

Boyle was controlling the midfield and it was through a piece of individual brilliance from the Scotland international that Hibs took the lead on 23 minutes.

The midfielder lined up a free kick on the edge of Well's box and curved it expertly into the top corner.

Hibs were made to wait until just before half time for a second which came through some poacher's play from Morrison.

Ramsay, in goal for the hosts, looked to have comfortably held onto a ball in the box but the 'keeper let slip and Morrison was there to fire into the back of the net.

Both teams came back out into the second half without making any changes and the direction of play wasn't to change either as Hibs continued to control and create chances.

The third of the day came through Boyce who latched onto a through ball and calmly slotted underneath the keeper with 54 minutes on the clock.

The day was rounded off with Muir's goal five minutes before full time as the marauding defender got on the end of Eilidh Adams' cutback and fired beyond Ramsay.

Due to our game against Hearts being moved to the 29th September, our next game will be away to third placed Celtic on the 26th September.
