Preview: Hibernian Women vs Spartans

THE LOWDOWN

This Sunday, Hibernian Women travel to Ainslie Park to take on Spartans in Park’s Motor Group SWPL 1 action.

Following a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Glasgow City last weekend, Dean Gibson and his side will be looking at this Sunday’s game against Spartans as the perfect opportunity to bounce back.

THE OPPOSITION

Spartans are currently 6th in the Park's Motor Group SWPL 1, six points behind Hibs in 4th. Motherwell and Spartans both have 17 points, however, Spartans have a superior goal difference and are therefore one place higher. Although, Motherwell do have a game in hand meaning this weekend’s match could be crucial for Spartans.

In their last game, Spartans picked up three very important points with a 1-0 victory over Hamilton thanks to an excellent volley from Alana Marshall.

So far this season, Hibs and Spartans have met twice. The first encounter came on the opening day of the 2021/22 season where Hibs secured a 3-0 win at the Tony Macaroni Arena. The second meeting took place at Ainslie Park on November 21st, 2021, which ended in a goalless draw between the two sides.

Gabby English is excited for this weekend's clash with Spartans.

FROM THE CHANGING ROOM

Gabby English has shared her thoughts ahead of Sunday’s clash with Spartans and believes that it is the perfect opportunity to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat.

“Unfortunately, not every call will fall in our favour, but it definitely has caused a chip on our shoulders (the defeat to Glasgow City), so we are itching to get back on the pitch together.

“We are feeling great. We have been working hard and improving each day and I think our performances prove it. It’s always a good game against Spartans so we are excited to go out and give it 100% again this weekend.

“I’m expecting a hard-fought match between both squads. There are no easy games in this league so we will focus on our game plan and our preparation and hopefully come out with the 3 points by the end of the weekend.

“I think if we continue to focus our process and our coaching points, we will continue to do amazing things as a squad. We don’t take our games against Spartans lightly so it should be a great match and we are really looking forward to it.”
