Christian Doidge will be out for at least three months with an Achilles injury picked up in Croatia.
The Welsh forward sustained the knock in training ahead of our UEFA Europa Conference League tie with Rijeka in Croatia.
He flew back in a protective boot ahead of a scan in Edinburgh, which has unfortunately revealed a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Christian returned to pre-season late after recovering from Covid-19, but found his form quickly and carried over his form from last season.
He scored 13 goals for us in all competitions in 2020/21 and netted in both our league wins this campaign against Motherwell (3-2) and Ross County (2-0). But, frustratingly, he'll now face another spell on the sidelines.
"He picked up the injury on Wednesday evening when we trained in Croatia," said head coach Jack Ross. "And he had a scan on Friday when we returned.
"It's going to be three or four months before he returns to training, so he'll basically miss the rest of the calendar year.
"It's a massive blow for us and him. He was in such great form and had the ambition to be in and around the Welsh squad and I think he wasn't far off that. He's been a really important player for us during my time here and we'll miss him."
