Gray, who has been assisted by Eddie May and Craig Samson, will be in the technical area and leading the team at Hampden Park on Sunday (19 December, 2021) in the game that kicks-off at 3pm.
He told Hibs TV when he found out about the news and how that made him feel.
“I spoke to Ben Kensell, and we had a very positive conversation after the result against Dundee, which was great.
“He asked myself and Eddie to continue to take the team for the weekend as they conclude the process of finding a new manager.
“I’m proud to work for Hibernian Football Club; that’s the most important thing.
“This isn’t about me, Eddie or anyone else, it’s all about preparing the players to make sure they can play to the best of their ability.
“We have to make sure they’re ready for the cup final, which our attentions are fully on.”

Gray wrote his name in Hibernian FC folklore in 2016, scoring a last-minute winner in the Scottish Cup Final against Rangers, a memory that’ll forever be etched into the minds of all Hibees.
“That day, and that whole weekend, was a fantastic occasion for everyone to be involved,” smiled the 33-year-old.
“I’ve never appreciated as much until I stopped playing. You look back and you look at what you achieved over your career, and I’m very grateful, and very honoured, to be able to say that was the greatest achievement in my career.
“Someone else has the opportunity to do that this weekend. If we go there and play to the best of our ability, then we have the opportunity to make history again.”
To get to the final, the Hibees beat Rangers in the semi-final, and Gray has urged his players for a repeat performance at Hampden Park.
“It’ll be a very difficult game; we saw that when we played against them at Easter Road.
“In the first 45 minutes it was a very difficult evening but the positives we can take from that was how we played in the second half because the reaction was very good.
“Ultimately we need to look at ourselves and the performance level we can achieve.
“If you look at the semi-final for example, you can take confidence from how we played then. If we play to our best, then we’re more than a match for anybody. If we do that then we can definitely win the cup.”
