It’s been a grueling schedule for the Hibees who have played a game every three days since 21 November.

Following the Scottish Government’s announcement regarding football matches having a maximum crowd of 500, the SPFL made the decision to move the winter break forward, meaning our last game of the calendar year is at Tannadice Park on Boxing Day.

Since his arrival, Maloney has had to be mindful of the players’ workload, so they are fresh enough on a match day, whilst also trying to hit high standards and high demands in training to get his style across.

He explained how pleased he’s been with the players’ efforts and detailed how much work he’s got ahead of him.

“For two days the players have been exceptional; I couldn’t have asked for anymore.

“I’ve got some really good senior players and I rely on them heavily. The lads have been really good, and we have to go again.

“We’ve had a super start, but we have to keep going. We’ve got goals we want to reach, so much more work to do and we’re getting started again.”

That excellent start was a 1-0 win over Aberdeen which saw us rise to fifth in the cinch Premiership table.

“I’m super proud of the players. It was really, really positive and we have to build on that.

“The players’ schedule has been really tough. I understand it’s been tough on other teams as well, but for us it’s been really tough.

“So, for the to go one more time before the break is big ask, but we have to try and go again against Dundee United.”
