It was Boyle who managed to bag himself a hat-trick, the man of the match award, and a place for us in the cup final. Alongside an excellent team display, of course.
In an interview after the match, Boyle expressed what the win meant to him: “It’s unbelievable, I can’t put into words what is happening right now but it’s a great game for us, we’re through to the final and we need to go again.
“This is up to the very top for me in terms of personal achievement, unbelievable. Moments like these don’t come around long and you’ve got to cherish them, so I’m absolutely buzzing.”
Ryan Porteous put in a fantastic performance at the back and explained why he felt a win like this was coming.
“We’ve played Rangers a few times over the last couple of years and we feel like we’ve let ourselves down by either myself getting sent off or conceding goals and making not getting enough breaks, but we showed quality today.
“The man to my left here (Martin Boyle) is playing light years above his level right, he’s just superb and a pleasure to play beside him.”
We came into the game off the back of a difficult string of results and without playing a game for three and a half weeks due to a Covid outbreak.
Boyler explained how all the players came together in that difficult period to show the supporters what they could really do.
“I think because we were coming into the game on such a bad run of results, we had international break, we had the covid situation and we had a bad run of performances, and we were due the fans one.
“We all stuck together, we were a good team tonight and we came here to show what we’re capable of.”
This game also meant a lot to the players after the recent disappointment at Hampden, being beaten in last year’s semi-final and final by St Johnstone, they felt like they owed more to the supporters and their manager, Jack Ross.
“I think we let the fans down last year in the cup final and the semi-final and we’ve let the manager down over the last month and last year, so I feel like we are rectifying that.
“We’re showing now that we are good enough to beat anybody and we take that into the final and we will bring the cup home.”
