Hibernian Women can today confirm that Katie Rice “Ricey” will be leaving the club. This decision has been made due to travel reasons.
Ricey joined the club in January this year but was unable to feature for the side until later in the summer due to injury. She made her competitive debut for Hibs in a 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock in the SWPL Cup back in August.
During her time at Hibs, Ricey was an excellent player who would always give 100% on the pitch and could be relied on. She notably started in our 3-0 victory over Hearts at Easter Road in September in front of a record-breaking crowd.
Ricey was also a popular figure amongst the players and would often give time to the fans in attendance.
Manager Dean Gibson had this to say on the defender’s departure.
“While it is disappointing to be losing Ricey, I completely understand her decision. Unfortunately, in the women’s game, football is not always the sole focus and work and travel can play a major part in the location a player plays. Coming from the West, that travel was getting too much.
“We wish Ricey all the best and hope she can stay injury-free and get a good run of games at her next club.”
Everyone at Hibernian would like to wish Ricey the best of luck on her new adventure and for what the future holds.
