Maloney left the club earlier this week and Ronald J Gordon spoke to the media to address the reasoning behind the decision.

The Hibs Executive Chairman sat down with members of the written media, national broadcasters and Hibs supporters podcast groups.

Maloney joined the Hibees in December 2021 and took charge of the Club for 19 matches of which he had a record of six wins, six draws and seven defeats.

His last two defeats came at the hands of Edinburgh rivals Heart of Midlothian, which extinguished any hope of European football next season as we dropped into the bottom six.

Ultimately, that was the final straw for Gordon in what he described as an unacceptable run of results.

He said: "Ultimately when you look at the results, it is not acceptable for a Club like Hibs. At the end of the day it comes down to the fact it's a results-based business.

"We had a special board meeting on Monday and we came to the conclusion that we needed to make a change.

"We need to create a winning mindset at Hibs and create a standard of excellence. That wasn't quite happening on the football side - which was a shame because we are doing a lot of good things at the Club off the field, but if we are not getting the football bit right then that really doesn't matter."

Ron took full responsibility for the decision to appoint Maloney and insisted that his full focus was now on making sure the Club got the next appointment right.

"We now have two months to go out into the market and appoint a new Manager. We will find out who is available, reset and then we will be ready to go again in June.

"We are looking for a certain style of Manager, and we are still looking to play an innovative, modern and attacking style of play.

"I think we do need a Manager with some experience; that doesn't have to be an old head with loads of experience. But we need a Manager that knows how to lead and who can deliver results.

"At the end of the day we need to instil a winning culture in the Club, that needs to be the mindset going forward."
