The Wee Hibees started the game well and were applying pressure but found themselves behind within the opening ten minutes. A well worked move by the visitors left United striker, Rory Macleod, with time to turn and pick his spot, giving Murray Johnson no chance.

The Wee Hibees fought their way back into the game and equalised from the spot through Connor Young - his seventh goal in four games.

Proceedings were made a little easier in the second half when United fullback, Sam Lovie, was shown a second yellow card for time wasting.

Malek Zaid made sure to capitalise on the extra man advantage and put us ahead in the 63rd minute when he coolly lifted the ball over the United keeper.

Speaking after the match, Gareth Evans told us how pleased he was to grind out another three points.

“It was a hard first half and we found it difficult to break them down at times. We did have quite a few attempts on goal, but nothing really as clear cut as what we would like.

"In the second half we were a lot better and dominated the game.

“We had to be a little bit more patient and create the opportunities so we could get the cutbacks and get crosses into the box, but we pressed a lot better in the second half and we were much more dominant.

“The players did well in the game - they were disciplined and concentrated. We don't worry about anything else we just focus on ourselves.”

Next up for the Wee Hibees is Hamilton on Friday evening. Gareth is looking to take the positives out of Tuesday’s game and ensure we can pick up another victory.

“We always take things out of the game; we review the games back and then we look forward to the next one. We play Hamilton on Friday night, and the games are coming thick and fast now. Hopefully we can play as well as we did in the second half tonight on Friday evening.”

The Wee Hibees now sit two points behind Rangers at the top of the table but have six games in hand.
