Conceding 3 goals, and giving away a controversial penalty, the manager was critical of the way his team defended throughout the game.

‘It’s hard to summarise it. I thought we were quite good. We didn’t deserve to lose, but when we gift a team 3 goals, you get what you deserve at times.

‘We created and had enough opportunities to still win the game, we should have won the game – but we made life hard for ourselves.’

After a number of offside calls went against Hibs, Gibson believed this hindered his sides attacking fluidity, but acknowledged that blame cannot be attributed to the referees for the loss.

‘It’s hugely frustrating because it felt like every time we made a run in behind, the linesmen were flagging. I don’t believe they were offside every single time, but we can’t blame the referees for our defending. If we defend better, then we win the game.’

‘If Motherwell played through us, I would be worried, but for me it’s just being a little bit sharper and defending better’

There were positives to be had, however. Gibson touched upon the creativity shown by his side, highlighting the performance produced by Krystyna Freda.

‘We had a lot of good opportunities today. We just need to get players on the pitch and get their confidence high.’

‘Krystyna is a good player, but again we’re just trying to get these players up to speed. They didn’t have a pre-season, so when they do improve, we’re going to be a dangerous team. She was very good when she came on and she’s getting closer to being able to start games which is great for us.’

Next up, the Hibs Women face Dundee United on August 28th as they look to rectify this disappointing result.
