Keanu Baccus' early goal proved crucial as St Mirren ran out 1-0 winners on the day in Paisley.
Elie Youan, Joe Newell and Christian Doidge had chances to draw us level but ultimately we fell short on what was a disappointing afternoon for all those in green and white.
Speaking to Hibs TV after the match, Doidge highlighted poor decision-making as one of the main contributors to the result.
He told us: "We conceded a very sloppy goal in the first-half, we tried our hardest to create chances and get ourselves back into the game but we just didn’t do it today – it is a really tough one to take.
"For me the main thing that cost us was our decision making. We made some really bad decisions at important times and that really cost us.
"I thought we looked lively down the right-hand side but ultimately the ball didn’t drop for us and that happens in football sometimes."
Up next, the Hibees host Kilmarnock at Easter Road next Saturday (3 September) and Doidge insists the team have a big week ahead in training to make sure they are prepared for what will be another tough game.
“We need to make sure we work hard this week and get the basics right - we didn't do that today.
“We conceded an early goal again today and made some bad decisions that were preventable – we need to work on that and make sure we put in a 90-minute performance against Kilmarnock.”
