Darren McGregor (2015 – present)

One of our own. Darren McGregor burst onto the professional football scene relatively late in his career.

Having spent the early parts of his career at Cowdenbeath and Arniston Rangers McGregor secured his first pro contract with St Mirren in 2010, before moving on to Rangers and then his boyhood Club Hibernian in 2015.

During seven full seasons with the Club, McGregor has packed a lot into his Hibs career so far.

In his first season with the Club, Daz was part of the squad that won the 2016 Scottish Cup Final – McGregor played the full 90 minutes in the legendary 3-2 victory over his former club.

The following season, McGregor helped the Hibees win promotion back to the Scottish top flight, scoring a brace in a 3-0 win over Queen of the South to secure the Scottish Championship title.

The rock-solid centre-back has gone on to play 188 times for the Club scoring eight goals in total and at the end of the 2021/22 league season moved into a player/coaching role with the Club.

Dominique Malonga (2014 – 2016)

Dominique Malonga held the number 24 shirt the season before McGregor joined the Club.

During the 2014/15 campaign – Malonga’s first season at Hibs – he scored 16 times in 31 appearances, including a hat-trick against Dumbarton and the opening goal in the Edinburgh Derby in October 2014.

He added a further 6 goals the following season, including a goal against Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup Fourth Round in 2016, the start of that infamous cup run – but left the Club two weeks later to join Italian side Pro Vercelli.

David Wotherspoon (2009 – 2013)

David Wotherspoon was a product of the Hibernian Academy, coming through the ranks youth ranks and making his debut in 2009 – marking the occasion with the only goal of the match in a 1-0 over St Mirren.

‘Spoony’ as known by the Hibernian supporters, was a popular figure at the Club and went from strength to strength after making his debut. He made 39 appearances in his breakthrough season at Hibs, aged 19.

Wotherspoon was a versatile player and was mainly used on the right-hand side of the pitch in either defence or midfield. He went on to make 154 appearances in green and white, scoring 9 goals including the winner against Hearts in the Scottish Cup in December 2012.

He left the Club in 2013 to join St Johnstone and has since gone on to play at the highest level of international football – representing Canada at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
