THE LOWDOWN

This Sunday we travel to the Balmoral Stadium to take on Aberdeen in Park’s Motor Group SWPL 1 action.

After back-to-back victories over Motherwell and St Johnstone, Dean Gibson and his side will be hoping to pick up their third victory in a row and all three points this weekend.

THE OPPOSITION

After winning the Park's Motor Group SWPL 2 title at the end of last season and gaining promotion, Aberdeen have made a strong start to this year’s campaign and currently sit sixth in the Park’s Motor Group SWPL 1 table, ten points behind Hibs.

Their two most recent fixtures have seen them secure a 4-2 victory over Glasgow Girls in the Scottish Cup and a 4-0 victory over Hearts in the Park’s Motor Group SWPL 1.

Hibs and Aberdeen have met each other twice so far this season with Hibs coming out on top on both occasions.

Dean Gibson believes his side are coming into this weekend's fixture full of confidence and has also spoken about how well Shannon McGregor has played since her return from injury.

“The most important thing last Sunday was making sure we got ourselves into the next round of the cup. To score six goals was pleasing but in truth, we could have scored more! The first half was slightly frustrating but in the second half we played extremely well. Hopefully, we can continue that into the game against Aberdeen.

“We are feeling good. It has been a positive start to 2022. We are also starting to get some bodies back, and the squad is starting to look healthy again. We are full of confidence.

“We expect Aberdeen to be in good form. They are on the back of a couple of good results. Confidence plays a massive part in football and I’m sure we will be playing a confident Aberdeen this weekend. We will need to be at our best to win the game.

“Shannon’s return has been excellent. We spoke a few weeks ago about finding consistency and she’s sure doing that. Her performances for us have been outstanding. If she continues to play the way she has been she will be knocking on the Scotland door. Shannon is a huge talent and one we have missed but also now enjoying having her back in the group. It’s been like a new signing.”

Shannon McGregor is expecting a tough game against Aberdeen this weekend and has also expressed her joy to have won two Player of the Match awards in the last two weeks.

“I am delighted with the 6-1 win over St Johnstone as it was the third game in a week, so it was a good game to finish on, especially getting a goal and Player of the Match.

“I am overwhelmed I’ve received two Player of the Match awards in the last two weeks as it feels like the hard work from my rehabilitation is paying off.

“The squad are looking forward to this weekend as we have prepared at training all this week. We expect a tough game, but we are looking to gain the three points

“Aberdeen are a good side, and we are expecting a tough game, they have been getting results recently so they will be looking to continue their run of games.”
