His side were beaten 2-0 at Ibrox in our latest cinch Premiership game with a goal coming in each half.

When speaking after the match, our Manager gave his thoughts on the performance.

“I'm disappointed with the result, but parts of the performance were positive. I think Rangers were probably the better side for a large part of the first half.

“Defensively, at times, we were very good. I think the second goal was avoidable.

“Again, we finished strong, and we had chances in the game that we have to take. We have to start taking them. It seems very similar that I'm saying this, but we have to.”

After conceding a penalty within the first five minutes, we had huge appeals of our own as Ryan Porteous looked to be dragged down in the box. Despite pointing to the spot, the referee awarded Rangers a free-kick.

Maloney was quick to provide his thoughts on that incident to HibsTV.

“I think there was a penalty decision that might have changed the game, that I think is a clear mistake.

“Referees can make mistakes it’s very difficult for them, but it definitely would have changed the dynamic of the game.”

The players continue to adapt to Maloney’s style of play, but our Manager knows that they have to be better in certain situations.

“We struggled in possession at times in the first half when passing out from the back or with our goalkeeper. I ask them and give them the option to play short, but I think we can be loads better at that.

“I think on nights like tonight, I always give them the option to go longer whenever they feel it, I give the players the option, but I think moving forward we have to be better at that.

“I can't criticise too much. The players have been very good at times and they're trying to take on things that they've maybe never done before or never been asked to do, so when they make a mistake, I have to give them support. Moving forward, I think we can definitely be better in that part of the game.

“It's learning, but it’s learning on the job. I know what the table is. I came in when we were seventh, we're back at seventh. So that real progression we felt at the start has stalled slightly.”

We are now two points off the European places, but equally are four points off 10th, in what is an intensely competitive part of the table.

“The table’s very, very tight and we have to trust how we're playing, but we have to be ruthless with our chances.

“I think defensively we can be very good, but it's the other side of the game that changes defeats or draws into the wins that sometimes our performance merits.”
