James Scott scored the only goal of the game as both sides had to navigate through tricky conditions in Tranent.
With the U18s playing on Monday night, Kean selected a side featuring a mixture of First Team players, U18s and Academy prospects.
There were several good performances with Malik Zaid and Innes Murray both looking lively down the touchline. January signing, Joao Balde put in a solid shift in the middle of the park against a strong Huddersfield Town outfit.
Speaking to hibernianfc.co.uk after the match, Steve was delighted that the way the team gelled together. He told us:
“The senior pros that played were excellent. Their application and their attitude say a lot for them as characters and really rubs off on the younger players.
“It is the next part of the development for the young boys, some of them played last night and to mix with the senior pros and get the feeling that they’re making another step in their development is excellent.”

A solid performance earned the Hibees the victory, but tough weather conditions made it difficult for both teams to get into their stride. Steve was happy with the resilience that his team showed, as well as their desire to stick to their game plan.
“It was tough opposition in tough conditions today. These types of games are about what you do mentally, and we deserved our victory today.
“It was a difficult first half with the wind the way it was. We were trying to press quite high and we were getting picked off a little bit when they beat the first line of the press.
“The second half we were really high, making sure everyone was on the halfway line. Sometimes we went man for man and started taking risks. I felt like we smothered them and stopped them getting out of their half.
“We also played some nice football in the tough conditions, even in the first half we were getting out from the back and playing nice triangles. We were trying to get out by doing the right thing, despite the difficult conditions.”

Steve was impressed with the younger players' performances, including the likes of Josh O'Connor, Oscar MacIntyre, Jacob MacIntyre and Murray Aiken who all stepped up from the U18s.
“It was a great experience for them. They have a really tough programme at the moment as we are so many games behind in the U18 league. They played and won last night against Hamilton, now it’s a Tuesday game and a Friday game all the way through March.
“There’s nothing like playing games. If we can get more games in and give them more recovery days, then so be it. They’re in a position now where they have to learn to mix with the pros and we’ll train when we can.”
