The Bright Sparks programme will be delivered across 12 local schools and develop primary 4/5 pupil’s knowledge on energy saving, recycling, use of plastics, water saving and the environment that we live in today.

Hibernian stars Kyle Magennis and Joelle Murray were on hand to launch our latest project at St Ninian's Primary School and presented the whole class with tickets for our upcoming cinch Premiership game vs Livingston thanks to Utilita Energy.

Bright Sparks will form a new section within Hibs Class, the alternative curriculum for primary school pupils launched in 2020 by Hibernian Community Foundation.

Around 45% of children we work with at Hibernian Community Foundation face significant levels of multiple deprivation and food poverty. Through wider education of how to save energy and reduce costs, families can reduce their carbon footprint and save money at the same time. We have created a workbook for pupils to keep after the project concludes with long term learning objectives and outcomes for school staff, pupils, and associated family members.

As part of our pledge to be the Greenest Club in Scotland, we would like to educate our local community on how to save energy, encourage community recycling, discourage single use plastics, and encourage wider awareness of our environment. This not only helps Hibernian Football Club but the wider community of Leith and beyond.

Project and content understanding will be measured through pupil feedback in work booklets and in end of session quizzes. School feedback will also be achieved with a foundation staff member as a tutor and teacher dialogue. We hope that with this data we can shape further partnership work in the community with Utilita.
