THE LOWDOWN

Following our victory over Cove Rangers in the Fourth Round of the Scottish Cup, Shaun Maloney’s side travel to Fir Park this Wednesday to take on Motherwell in the cinch Premiership.

This will be Maloney’s fifth game in charge of Hibs, having won three of his first four.

Coming into the match, Motherwell currently sit fourth in the league table, two points ahead of Hibs. This means a victory for Maloney’s side will see them leapfrog Motherwell in the league table and put them in the European places.

Motherwell lost their last cinch Premiership match 3-1 against Ross County in Dingwall.

TEAM NEWS

New signing Harry Clarke will be unavailable for this clash having recently sustained a hamstring injury. Kyle Magennis has returned to training following a groin injury but is still building up his match fitness.

This match will be the final game of Ryan Porteous’ three-game suspension meaning he too misses out.

There is, however, a welcome return for Paul McGinn, who has now served his two-game suspension.

THE HOSTS

Thanks to a last-minute winner from Liam Donnelly in extra-time, Graham Alexander’s side come into this match off the back of a 2-1 victory over Greenock Morton in the Fourth Round of the Scottish Cup.

As forementioned, though, their last match in the cinch Premiership saw Motherwell suffer a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Ross County.

Alexander’s side have the fourth best home form in the league, winning seven of their 11 games at Fir Park. They have only lost three, one of those was against us on the opening day of the season.

The Steelmen will be without the services of their top scorer Tony Watt after the forward completed a permanent transfer to Dundee United earlier in the month.

One player to keep an eye on will be Kevin van Veen who has seven goals in the league so far this season.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Our last encounter with Motherwell came in early December in a game that ended 1-1 with Kevin Nisbet and the Tony Watt grabbing the goals.

On our last visit to Fir Park, we claimed all three points in 3-2 victory on the opening day of the 2021/22 season.

Kyle Magennis, Christian Doidge and Martin Boyle all scored that day as Hibs came from behind twice to win.
