Lee Johnson named his captains ahead of 2022/23 campaign and handed the 37-year-old ‘keeper an influential role alongside Club Captain Paul Hanlon.
When speaking about his new role to hibernianfc.co.uk, Marshall explained how delighted he was.
“It’s a huge honour whenever you get asked to be captain by a manager. I know how important the role is.
“I’ve done it during pre-season for a couple of games. It’s a huge honour, I’m delighted to do it, and I will do everything I can to make it a successful time and to help the lads.”
This isn’t Marshall’s first experience of being captain, having had the armband in the English Championship with Cardiff City and Derby County. He explained how those experiences have moulded him as a player and a person.
“It doesn’t change how you act, and that’s probably the reason why you’ve been asked to do it, in terms of how you carry yourself day-to-day.
“I understand it’s added responsibility and a bit more pressure on your shoulders, but it’s something the manager feels like a should take on and I’m more than happy with the role.”
He will now lead the dressing room in tandem with Paul Hanlon, someone he has a good relationship with.
“I get on great with Paul. He’s just got back fit, so it’ll be great to have him back involved in the squad.
“I will be leaning on him, Lewis Stevenson, Darren McGregor because they have more experience in the SPFL than me, but I’m sure together we can help the new boys, the lads that don’t know the Scottish game. As a team, we can make it work.”
