Hibernian made a few changes coming into this match which included a change of shape to a 3-5-2. This system allowed both Alexa Coyle and Eilidh Adams to start upfront with Colette Cavanagh and Shannon Leishman providing the width out wide.
Dean Gibson’s side made the perfect start to the match and opened the scoring in the second minute thanks to a low-driven effort from Coyle. Amy Gallacher picked up the ball outside of the Motherwell box and slid her pass through to Coyle who finished perfectly to give her side the lead.
There was a nervy moment for Hibs in the 9th minute due to a looping cross from Lori Gardner. The ball swerved in the air and looked as if it might have landed in the top corner had it not been for Gabby English who clawed the ball out of the air and out of danger.
English’s save proved to be very important as Hibs doubled their lead in the 20th minute thanks to another goal from Coyle. Joelle Murray stepped out of defence and was able to break the lines with an excellent through ball to find Coyle. The American then took aim from the edge of the box and fired the ball past Ciara Duff in the Motherwell net.
Hibs maintained control of the game for the next 20 minutes as they pushed to add to build momentum and add to their advantage.
In the 40th minute, Murray turned scorer with a great header at the back post. Gallacher swung in a corner which was met by Duff, however, the keeper was unable to hold onto the ball and sent it to the back post. Murray reacted first and fired the ball into the back off the net to give her side a 3-0 lead.
Moments later Hibs were awarded a penalty after Leishman was fouled inside the box. Gallacher send Duff the wrong way and struck her penalty into the top left corner to score Hibs’ fourth of the match.
This proved to be one of the final actions of the half as the referee brought the game to a halt shortly after. A dominant display from Hibs meant they went into the interval with a 4-0 lead.
Hibs picked up where they left off in the first half and got their fifth of the match just after the 50th minute thanks to a close-range strike from Adams. Michaela McAlonie played a ball over the top which Motherwell were not able to clear. Adams reacted first to the mix up at the back to score her first goal since returning from injury and Hibs’ fifth of the afternoon.
Not long after scoring her first, Adams got her second of the match in the 63rd minute with an excellent one versus one finish. McAlonie played a ball in behind the Motherwell defence which Adams was able to get onto. The striker beat the defence for pace and then finished excellently passed Duff to get her brace and Hibs’ sixth.
Gallacher's brace came in the 74th minute thanks to a magnificent half-volley from range. McAlonie tried her luck from range, but her initial shot was blocked. The ball fell to Gallacher who struck it first time from outside of the box and past Duff to make it 7-0.
Motherwell got one back in the 91st minute thanks to a goal from Amy Anderson who reacted first at the back post following a Motherwell corner. This turned out to be the final kick of the match as the referee blew for full time.
