Callum Hambrook scored the only goal of the game for the Wee Jambos and they claimed a 1-0 victory on the night.

Gareth Evans' side will be disappointed not to take anything from the game having missed a penalty in the first half and creating plenty of opportunities throughout the match.

The first chance came for the visitors, a Hibs free kick was cleared and Callum Sandilands was played through on goal with a pinpoint ball. Sandilands drove into the box got his head up and squared it to Murray Thomas, who was denied at the first attempt by Murray Johnson and then again as the Hibs defence cleared off the line.

Twenty minutes into the game, the Wee Hibees created their first chance, a flurry of corners led to Robbie Hamilton finding Connor Young who headed it back into the box. There was a scramble in the area and Murray Aitken was dragged down, winning Hibs a penalty.

Josh O'Connor stepped up to take, he drilled a low effort right down the middle but his effort was saved by Liam McFarlane with his trailing foot.

Hibs continued to push for the first goal, Ethan Laidlaw chipped a lovely ball over the top of the Hearts defence for O'Connor, the angle was against him and he fired his shot over the bar.

Hearts almost gifted us the opener as Oscar MacIntyre's low cross was nearly spilled into his own net by McFarlane. It looked like it would only be a matter of time before Hibs broke the deadline. O'Connor forced McFarlane into a great reaction save with his foot, after a delightful ball from Laidlaw. He then rattled the bar from an acute angle in injury time.

Hibs started the second half with a higher intensity in their play. Jacob Blaney stood over a free kick and delivered a beautiful low ball into the box, it evaded everyone in green but still required a strong left hand from McFarlane to keep it out.

On the hour mark Young whipped in a corner, it was right on the head of Kanayo Megwa, who got a great connection with his header, sadly for Gareth Evans' side it was straight at McFarlane.

The visitors were repelling every Hibs attack, Laidlaw took his turn to try and beat McFarlane, his curled effort from twenty yards out was pushed over the bar.

However the breakthrough would come against the run of play, with 13 minutes to play. Substitute Callum Hambrook was played in behind the Hibs defence, his shot found the corner of the net to give the visitors the opener.

The Wee Hibees' last chance would come three minutes from full-time, Malek Zaid, controlled a cross and knocked it back for Oscar MacIntyre. Oscar took it past two defenders before flashing his effort agonisingly past the post.

That was the final chance of the tie with Wee Hibees falling to their first league defeat of the season.
