THE LOWDOWN

This Saturday we travel to Celtic Park to take on Celtic Women in Park’s Motor Group SWPL 1 action.

Dean Gibson’s side come into Saturday’s game off the back of a third derby victory of the season last weekend and a 1-0 victory over Partick Thistle at Easter Road in the midweek game.

THE OPPOSITION

Celtic Women currently sit 3rd in the Park’s Motor Group SWPL 1 table on 45 points. In their last match, Celtic Women secured a 6-1 victory over Motherwell.

So far this season, Celtic Women and Hibernian Women have met each other on three occasions. The first came at the Excelsior Stadium on the 26th of September in a league match that saw Celtic pick up a 2-1 victory thanks to a late winner from Charlie Wellings.

The two sides then met again in the SWPL Cup at Forthbank Stadium on November 11th in a match that saw Celtic Women once again secure a 2-1 victory.

The most recent meeting between the two sides came on January 16th at the Tony Macaroni Arena for a Park's Motor Group SWPL 1 match that ended 1-1 after a late equaliser from Ellis Notley.

FROM THE CHANGING ROOM

Leah Eddie has been delighted with her side’s recent victories and is now looking ahead to this weekend’s clash with Celtic Women.

“When it comes to an Edinburgh derby, you know it’s a completely different type of game. Both teams come out with a lot of hunger and fight to get the three points. The team and I were delighted to make it three wins against Hearts especially with it being the last one in the league before the season ends. Following on from that we got the win we needed against Partick Thistle which was even better to get at Easter Road. We knew what we had to do and I’d say we did that.

“Saturday will be a tough game, it always is when we come up against Celtic. Previous results have been frustrating for us so we are looking to go out, perform well and get what we are looking for. We are fully prepared, looking to touch on some final points in training Friday.

“Celtic are a tough team to play through and will always battle until the final whistle. That’s why it’s crucial we stick to our game plan to try and utilise where we think we can get success.

“Playing at Celtic Park will be brilliant for both teams, the league and the fans coming to watch. It’s a step in the right direction for women’s football which can only be positive. Celtic will be up for the game being backed by their home crowd but we are looking to put that aside and focus on ourselves.”
