Our Story
At Hibs, we are always striving to be better in everything that we do. Since we were announced as Scotland's Greenest Club by Environmental Waste Control in 2020, we have embraced the title and focussed on bettering our sustainability model for the future.
Over the last two years, we have shared best practice with the likes of Denmark's AFG, Forest Green Rovers and Manchester United on the topic of sustainability - and have been named among the three greenest clubs in the UK.
Some initiatives we have implemented along our journey to become more sustainable as a Club include;
- First Club in Scotland to join the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework
- Drawing energy from 100% renewable sources
- Installing and using LED lighting at the training ground.
- Using electric cars and building EV charging points for staff
- Adopting fully compostable packing around the food stalls at Easter Road and exploring more environmentally friendly food options.
This is only a start and the Club is constantly trying to explore new ways of moving towards a greener future. Some pipeline ideas range from solar farms to composting and even beekeeping at HTC.
We are delighted to be shortlisted for the Sustainability Award this year, however, we are only a small part of the story here.
There are nearly eight billion people in the world and Edinburgh is only a drop in the ocean on that scale. Environmental change begins with individual actions and as a Club we hope our actions will also inspire others.
