Ethan Laidlaw netted twice alongside Robbie Hamilton and Connor Young as the Wee Hibees dispatched 9-men Celtic at HTC.

The result means Gareth Evans' side need just three wins from their last seven matches to secure the title.

The game started at a pace, with both sides moving the ball well, but it was the Hibees that created the more threatening chances.

Connor Young and Malik Zaid linked up well, with Young forcing the Celtic Keeper into a save.

Zaid was at the heart of everything good for Hibs, shooting just wide himself before setting up Young, who curled an effort just past the post.

The breakthrough would come just five minutes before half time. Robbie Hamilton hounded the Celtic backline, and when Rory Mahady in the Celtic goal took a heavy touch, he was on him in a flash, sliding in and winning the ball. That left him with an open goal, and even time to celebrate before rolling the ball into the empty net.

The Hibs performance levels dropped before halftime, but they came out flying for the second half, and scored their second just three minutes after the restart.

Kanayo Megwa lofted a lovely cross to the back post where Ethan Laidlaw was running in, and he glanced his header just inside the post.

The third came just minutes later - more slack passing from Celtic allowed Young to nip in and intercept a back pass. As he tried to round Mahady, he was brought down, and the Celtic 'keeper was given his marching orders by the referee.

Young stepped up and curled home a wonderful free kick.

The Wee Hibees were not content with just three goals and kept pushing for more. Josh McCulloch forced the sub keeper into his first save and Hamilton fired over.

The fourth came in the 67th minute. A mixup in the Celtic defence after a Zaid shot, saw the ball fall to Laidlaw, who remained calm and dinked the ball over the sub keeper for his second goal of the match.

With a hectic schedule still remaining, Gareth Evans took the chance to rest key members of his squad and looked to comfortably just see the game out.

Laidlaw would have one chance to take home the match ball, as he skipped past the defence but could not find the far corner.

A thoroughly deserved win in the end for the Wee Hibees, who remain top of the table, with four games in hand.
