Aiken has been with the Hibernian FC Academy since he was 10 years old and has shone for our impressive Under-18s this season.

The now 17-year-old, who’s a central midfielder by trade but can also be used as a centre-back or right-back, has developed at a rapid rate, which led to two pinch myself moments on Sunday 15 May, 2022

As Hibernian FC romped to an impressive 4-0 win against St Johnstone at Easter Road on the final day of the First Team season, Murray came on as a substitute in the 66th minute replacing Arsenal loanee Harry Clarke. A proud moment for him and his family.

But little did he know those moments would continue to fall, as later in the day he was named as the Club’s Academy Player of the Year.

After picking up the award, Murray said: “As the day’s gone on it’s just got more and more surreal; I never expected any of this, but I’m delighted.”

Murray was one of four of the U18s who made their debut that day, which was a proud one for the Hibernian FC Academy, and he explained what it was like from his perspective.

“We’ve got a good group of lads, so I’m glad we all got the reward for our hard work.

“I was a wee bit nervous at the start, but once I got settled in, I was loving every minute of it!”

Coming on as right-wing back, a position that suits his versatility, the youngster explained how valuable it was to play in front of the experienced Paul McGinn and Darren McGregor.

“When you get your chance to play alongside these guys, it’s unbelievable because it’s so helpful.

“They coach you through the game and give you wee pointers, especially Paul McGinn who was constantly telling me where to be and helping me.”

The Peebles High School student, who’s blessed with excellent endurance levels and an ability to support the strikers with well-timed runs, will continue to develop with Gareth Evans’ side as the U18s look to win the league title, with the long-term aim of continuing his progression and breaking into the First Team again.

“We need to end the season strongly with the U18s and then we could win the title and be playing in Europe next season, which would be well deserved and great for all the lads!

“I felt like I’ve been developing game by game with the U18s and I hope that can continue.

“My debut gave me a good taste of what’s to come, so hopefully I can push on from here!”
