John Burridge quickly earned cult hero status in his two years at Easter Road, with his heroics between the sticks key to the League Cup triumph in 1991. The esteem in which he’s held by supporters is obvious, given the warm reception he has always received whenever he’s back in Edinburgh.

The former Hibs shot-stopper is looking forward to returning to Easter Road.
He said: “Whatever anyone thinks, I’m fit enough to play the full 90 minutes. I know it’s a charity match and meant to be a bit of fun, but I won’t treat it like that. I’m there to keep a clean sheet because that’s my job!
“I’m looking forward to seeing some old team-mates, friends and supporters who have always treated me so well, but I’ll mean business for those 90 minutes.”
HSF’s Chairman, Graeme Cadger, added: “We’re delighted to have Budgie on board, and he has been in typically enthusiastic form. It’s easy to see how much he’s looking forward to getting back to Edinburgh and running out at Easter Road again.
“We’re grateful to Budgie for taking time out to help the Foundation, like every other player who has agreed to take part for the benefit of some really important causes in our local community."
Cult hero 'Budgie' signs on for The Match – Can YOU beat the Budgie?
While he’s itching to play for as long as he can in our charity fundraiser, John will also take part in a half-time ‘Beat the Budgie’ shoot-out.
Three supporters will have the opportunity to test themselves against the seasoned shot-stopper, with the winner receiving a brand-new electric scooter – kindly donated by Skootz Edinburgh.
For every £5 that is donated, your name will go into a draw to have your chance to 'Beat the Budgie'. The three winners will also receive three tickets each for The Match.
