THE LOWDOWN
Hibernian Women travel to Petershill Park this Sunday to take on Glasgow City (kick-off 16:00) in SWPL 1 action.
Last weekend, the Hibees drew 1-1 with Hearts Women in front of a record-breaking crowd at Easter Road. As the match ended in a draw, a penalty shootout ensued to determine the winners of the Women’s Capital Cup. Hibs Women won the shootout 5-4 to become the inaugural winners of the trophy.
Hibs Women and Glasgow City last met on November 6th in the semi-finals of the Sky Sports Cup. Dean Gibson’s side picked up a 2-1 victory on the day – thanks to a brace from Krystyna Freda – and advanced to the finals of the competition. It is likely that Glasgow City will be out for revenge this weekend.
Gibson’s side are currently 6th in the SWPL 1 – level on points with Partick Thistle in 5th but behind on goal difference.
Sunday's match will see both teams participating in Shelter Scotland's No Home Kit Campaign. Every 90 minutes 5 households are made homeless in Scotland. This Christmas, Scottish football clubs and fans will be swapping their home colours for an away or third kit, raising vital funds and awareness for those with no safe place to call home. The housing emergency is affecting more and more families across society. Read more by CLICKING HERE.
THE OPPOSITION
Glasgow City are currently top of the SWPL 1, ahead of Rangers Women in 2nd by two points.
Eileen Gleeson’s side are also currently undefeated in the league, with 10 wins and one draw from their opening 11 SWPL 1 fixtures.
Their most recent result saw them secure a 4-1 victory over Partick Thistle.
Interestingly, they are also the only side in the SWPL 1 who have scored against the current champions Rangers Women this season.
