Reuben McAllister gave the wee Hibees the lead with less than a minute on the clock, however, the visitors managed to find an equaliser from a set piece early on in the second half. Both sides had plenty of opportunities to find a winner, but it was Freddie Owens who came up trumps for Gareth Evans’ men with a string of incredible saves.
Speaking to hibernianfc.co.uk immediately after his heroic performance, Freddie said:
“We found it tough out there tonight. There was a lot of wind in the first half which didn’t really help. There was a lot of balls going in behind that were hard to read and it was the same for the crosses when the ball was getting caught up in the air.
“Overall, I thought I played really well, and it was a good point for us.”
Freddie believes there was plenty of opportunities for his side to capitalise on chances, but a lack of clinical edge prevented them from taking all three points.
“There were definite chances for us tonight. There were goal scoring opportunities, and we should have taken them, but we’re still happy we managed to get a point.”
Despite creating countless chances to win the game, Owens was in fine form to keep the Well out at the other end. A phenomenal penalty save in the second half was followed up 20 minutes later with a reactionary double save with only seconds remaining, ensuring the wee Hibees came away with a well-deserved point.
“There is nothing better than it” Freddie said.
“Making a penalty save is just the best feeling for a goalkeeper and it was the same with the double save at the end, I was absolutely buzzing.”
